I am working on a new kind of transcript that is extensive and time-consuming to create (not in the sense of picking apart details in the glyphs, but rather in terms of characterizing the text). I’m not specifically doing it to investigate shifts, but I have been hoping, as it comes along (I’m about 75% done), that the presence or absence of shifts and their nature might be discernible once it’s finished.
]]>Still, what he wrote about shifts in the language is an interesting topic in general, and certainly worthy of investigation. Though apparently it’s a daunting task even to him.
