It’s also not known if VMS EVA-d is a number or a letter-shape, so the similarity might be coincidental.

A few scribes even used the figure-8 shape for “s” in the middles of words (although this is very uncommon, since it could be mistaken for the figure-8 “d”, so this form was usually only used for final-ess).
